Michael White - Group Operations Director at Brunel Shipping was recently interviewed by ITV news on his thoughts about the new China to London silk road rail link.
White commented - "We see enormous advantages and benefits to this new train service from CHINA YIWU to LONDON. With an already strong service to Madrid Spain and already existing operating rail hubs throughout the EU, London was the natural next expansion of the Chinese government strategic development to assist Xi Jinping’s "ONE BELT ONE ROAD" strategy. It also strengthens the trade relation between the UK and the China post-Brexit"

China Rail Freight across Europe
Over the last few years, China Railway have been transporting freight and cargo via the famous Silk Road railway track which links 12,000 kilometres of track via the Trans Siberian Railway
An exciting development has just taken place with the first train going from Yiwu to London (Barking in East London) which left on it's journey on the 1st January and is due to arrive at it's destination on the 18th January
This new service for importers and exporters provides an opportunity to send and receive rail freight to and from China, which in turn allows for faster delivery at a lower cost.
The new service means a potential saving on importing from china by air freight, with a potential saving of 50%. In relation to importing by sea freight from China, it means a time saving of anywhere between 12-14 days
Apart from London here are some other European Routes/Schedules
There are two key rail links/routes: The first goes due north from China and connects with the famous Russian Trans-Siberian or heading west across Kazakhstan before feeding into the Trans-Siberian at Yekaterinburg, a key juncton for rail freight movements going in a westerly drection, and providing a key freight and project cargo transport link into Europe.
China - Warsaw (Poland) 12 days
China - Hamburg (Germany) 15 days
China - London (United Kingdom) 16-18 days
China - Moscow (Russia) 18 days
One of the things that is key here is the opportunity for companies like Brunel European to take advantage of cross trade opportunities and we are pleased to be able to offer this new service.
What are the key benefits?
SAVING TIME AND COSTS
The cost of China rail freight transportation is potentially fifty per cent less than current air freight imports from China, and transit time is 45%-50% shorter than sea freight transport.
FAST CUSTOMS CLEARANCE PROCESS
Both declaration and inspection can be completed more or less immediately, with your goods being released much quicker than expensive air or traditional sea freight. This customs service is available as a full 7 day and 24 hour service which we manage through our team in London and our partners in mainland China.
FLEXIBLE AND MULTIPLE SERVICES
A wide variety of goods are accepted for transportation, and services available include: Door to Door, FCL & LCL shipments.
