Pharmaceutical supplies have to be kept in an MHRA approved cold room environment and this can be complex at the best of times, but it is even more difficult when it is a "time critical shipment"
Our client contacted us with regards to a shipment of controlled pharmaceuticals that needed to meet a cruise liner at Osaka (quay) in Japan to replenish the medical stores prior to departure.
They had faced challenges in the past with clearing customs locally in Japan as the cruise ship operator did not have a legal Japanese entity locally to arrange customs clearance. The project required a multimodal transport solution including road and air freight (the road freight was covered by our sister company Brunel European.
The window of opportunity was 5 days from the initial contact to arrange; delivered to our Heathrow cold storage facility, air freight, customs clearance and delivery to the vessel at final destination. As you can imagine, the logistics and timing was key, so our first step was to meet with the client and discuss all timelines as well as providing keen air freight rates.
Any hold up would have stopped the vessel sailing from Osaka Quay, which in turn would have resulted in lost revenue for the end client.
